Xanh - Sketches

More sketch work development from 2012 when the world was supposed to end, but I chose to explore style & design instead. I need a life...

Mundus Divina - Visual Development

These color comps were to help me visualize the world, capturing each Devi Sister in their respective domains. I'm sifting through ways to simplify the amount of detail in each environment, and man, did I make a ton of new brushes in the process! xD

Xanh - Color Exploration

This was compiled from pieces created within over a year. I put it together in February in hopes of establishing some form of color palette. Still have a ways to go to nail it.

Xanh - Character Concept Stages

Thought I'd share a little bit of the concept process for some of my characters for Xanh:

Back in 2011, I used thumbnail techniques from the The Skillful Huntsman to knock out some ideas for the three Dragon Cardinals, emphasizing silhouettes and shapes for the top three rows. Then I narrowed down my choices in the bottom three rows, choosing the designs that matched the descriptions I wrote for each character.

Follow-up sketches of some of the cast.

Some style exploration.

With such an open-ended project, it's easy for me to get pulled in different directions for style because I keep discovering new ones I love! This character lineup was done as a part of my portfolio for CTNx 2013. It's a trip to see how and where my tastes grew since then! Next thing I'm gonna need: a deadline.

Mundus Divina - Concept Art

This entire property hit me almost fully formed. The concept, characters and conflict were all written out within one sitting, and I've been in love with it ever since. Here are very early concepts for my new story called Mundus Divina.

Xanh

The road in creating such an ambitious story like Xanh has been an awesome experience that continues to snowball. When my friends suggested using the material to create a portfolio, it was only a matter of time until it actualized! It's an understatement to say how extremely anxious I am to share such an epic remix of wu-xia and hip hop in a web-comic that I promise will make you wanna kung fu chop and/or kick the closest object in reach!
